Gladiolus

Watercolour

There are about 160 species of Gladiolus growing in southern Africa. This understated species of watermeyeri, I found growing in the Nieuwoudtville area of the western Cape– in amongst sandstone slopes. Besides their delicateness, they are sweetly scented.

Description

Karen is a naturalist, having lived with the bush surrounding her most of her life. She appreciates the magic and beauty of nature in all its myriad of essences. Therefore being self-taught, she tries to capture the purity of what has been created – the detail and wonder in each of her subjects. She is a lover of life and when drawing, perceives her subject as it is – its completeness, no more, no less. Her senses acute, she is aware of all the treasures that abound.
